July 22, 2021, DALLAS — The state of Mississippi made its official request of the United States Supreme Court in the case of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. In its Petitioners’ brief, Mississippi powerfully asks for both Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey to be overturned in a case questioning whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional.
“Mississippi’s willingness to ask this of the highest court in the land is nothing short of historic,” said Human Coalition Action National Legislative Advisor Chelsey Youman. “This is the greatest opportunity for the Supreme Court to overturn its unprincipled abortion precedents in 30 years. Human Coalition Action stands with the state in defending unborn children’s rights to live.”
In 2018, Jackson Women’s Health Organization, an abortion clinic in Mississippi, challenged the constitutionality of the state’s Gestational Age Act, which prohibited abortions after 15 weeks. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court decided to hear the case, which has the potential to overturn Roe v. Wade, the 1973 Supreme Court decision creating a constitutional right to abortion. Human Coalition Action will file an amicus brief, along with allies, in support of Mississippi.
