June 24, 2022, AUSTIN, Texas — Human Coalition Action National Legislative Advisor Chelsey Youman issued the following statement on Tuesday after the Supreme Court historically overruled Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey, in a 6-3 decision in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization:
“This principled ruling marks the beginning of a new American era, an era of hope for preborn children and their mothers to thrive.
“We in the pro-life movement have been anticipating this day for decades. We prepared a vast support system for this moment and are ready to make abortion unthinkable and unnecessary. More than 2,700 pro-life organizations across the country offer tangible services to address the needs of women seeking to abort; a robust public and private infrastructure of resources for vulnerable women exists right now. We are pro-birth and pro-life, and this is borne out in our actions.
The humanity of the child in the womb is undeniable. Decades of scientific advances prove what we knew all along—the child in the womb is a human being and it is alive. We now see evidence of a heartbeat and organs developing at the earliest stages of pregnancy; science and medicine reaffirm the humanity of the embryo. Each one is created, unique, and matters. Every human does. We must protect these precious lives with the full strength of the law.
It is time for all states to enact laws protecting these little lives before viability, when they are most vulnerable. Thankfully, states once again have the rightful authority to eradicate the stain of abortion from our midst.
Yet our fight to protect women and children is just beginning! While the pro-life movement has momentum right now, the legality of this evil procedure remains unchanged in nearly half of states. The abortion industry is pushing extreme laws to make states into abortion “havens,” legalizing abortion throughout birth. This is completely out-of-touch with the beliefs of the American public.
Women deserve better than abortion, and they want better than abortion. Three-fourths of the women Human Coalition assists would prefer to parent if their circumstances were different. They do not want abortion but feel they have no other choice; what they really need is tangible support and encouragement to choose life. We are here to provide it for them.”
In 2018, Jackson Women’s Health Organization, an abortion facility in Mississippi, challenged the constitutionality of the state’s Gestational Age Act, which prohibited abortions after 15 weeks. Earlier this year, the Supreme Court decided to hear the case. Human Coalition Action filed an amicus brief in the case, along with allies, in support of Mississippi.
