Human Coalition Action Responds to Virginia Elections

RICHMOND, VA, November 7, 2023 – Rev. Dean Nelson, Executive Director of Human Coalition Action, on Tuesday issued the following statement after the 2023 legislative elections in Virginia:

“While we are disappointed that we do not have a pro-life majority in Virginia’s legislature, we are heartened by the election of Tara Durant and Geary Higgins to provide pro-life leadership in the State Senate and House, respectively. We endorsed these candidates not only for their strong vision to protect children in the womb, but also their care and concern to provide alternatives to abortion for vulnerable women.

“Furthermore, nothing changes about our work moving forward. We will still work with allies in the legislature to enact policies that serve vulnerable women and address their dire circumstances that pressure them to abort. Women  have been seeking abortion in greater numbers than before in Virginia, and we are – and have been – working to address the root causes behind this trend.

“The fact is that women walk out of abortion clinics right back into the circumstances that pressured them to abort, without a fundamental change in their situation. We will continue working for policies that help transform their circumstances to make abortion unthinkable and unnecessary.“
