December 18, 2023, DALLAS, Texas — Human Coalition Action mourns the passing of Rev. Dean Nelson, Executive Director and a longtime leader in the pro-life movement.

President Jeff Bradford on Monday issued the following statement on the legacy of Rev. Dean Nelson:

“Rev. Nelson was a stalwart figure of the pro-life movement, a tireless worker for the right to life and a man of humility, strength, and grace. We are immensely privileged to have worked alongside him, and grateful to have known him. We send our deepest condolences to his wife Julia and his children as we mourn his passing with them.

“The pro-life movement has been blessed over the years with certain leaders who exhibit extraordinary levels of virtue and an unequaled passion for the mission. Rev. Nelson was one of these heroes. He was a consummate bridge-builder, possessing great patience and grace as he united leaders of churches and pro-life groups around the mission of life. He never stopped or slowed down this work, even during his sickness in these last months.  He was a true man for others, devoting himself to the service of the most vulnerable.

“Rev. Nelson’s rich legacy will be the intricate network of coalitions he built to help strengthen the pro-life movement, uniting the work of church leaders, grassroots organizations, and pro-life networks to serve as many families as possible. His legacy will be the lives saved from abortion due to his diligent efforts. And his legacy will be his heroic example of unselfishness, patience, kindness, and steadfastness while devoting himself to the Lord’s work.”

Prior to his time at Human Coalition, Rev. Nelson successfully directed pro-life and Christian organizations for more than 20 years, including Global Outreach Campus Ministries and Care Net. He was a licensed minister from Salem Baptist Church in Marshall, Virginia, and an ordained pastor with Wellington Boone Ministries.

Rev. Nelson served for five years as Human Coalition’s church outreach director before taking on the role of executive director of Human Coalition Action. There, he successfully developed pro-life coalitions and partnerships in the political sphere, expanding Human Coalition Action’s reach in several states and in Washington, D.C.

He was also appointed by Maryland Governor Larry Hogan to serve on the congressional Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Commission, and served as the chairman of the board for the Douglass Leadership Institute.
