AUSTIN, Texas, November 17, 2023 – Chelsey Youman, National Legislative Director for Human Coalition Action, issued the following statement after Friday’s Iowa Presidential Thanksgiving Family Forum in Des Moines, Iowa. The summit was attended by GOP presidential candidates Ron DeSantis, Nikki Haley, and Vivek Ramaswamy, along with leaders of faith-based advocacy groups from across the country.
“We absolutely need bold, compassionate pro-life leadership right now. The candidates tonight spoke winsomely about why life matters and shared powerful personal testimonies as to why they are pro-life.
“Yet today’s fight for life demands more than rhetoric. We need transformative policies that protect children in the womb and support their mothers. We need leaders – including and especially at the federal level – who will take courageous policy stands to both protect children in the womb and support pregnant women in need so that abortion becomes unthinkable. We cannot leave the right to life merely up to a majority of voters in a given state, because legislators and executives have a solemn duty to protect children no matter what state they’re in – California or Florida.
“Strong pro-life leadership can persuade many voters and legislators who are unsure about the right to life. The next president must actively lead members in Congress and American voters and enact pro-life laws even when consensus is uncertain.”
