Human Coalition Statement on Supreme Court June Medical Services Opening Arguments

DALLAS, TX – Human Coalition Action Executive Director Rev. Dean Nelson today released the following statement urging the U.S. Supreme Court to rule in favor of the state of Louisiana in the June Medical Services v. Russo case.

“Abortion not only ends the life of the preborn child, but also poses considerable risks to the life and health of the mother. Concern for a woman’s well-being should dictate the requirement that only licensed medical doctors with full admitting privileges to local hospitals should perform such procedures. To neglect this common-sense precaution would unnecessarily lengthen and complicate the time required to transfer a patient from an abortion clinic to a hospital in an emergency situation, where every minute counts. We hope that the Justices will consider the gravity of this risk and allow Louisiana to protect the lives and health of its citizens.”

In December, Human Coalition Action joined the Christian Legal Society, Catholic Bar Association, and National Pro-Life Alliance to file an amicus brief in favor of the constitutionality of a Louisiana law requiring abortionists to have admitting privileges at a hospital within 30 miles of where they perform an abortion.
