April 8, 2024, WASHINGTON, DC — On Monday, Chelsey Youman, National Legislative Advisor with Human Coalition Action, responded to President Trump’s comments that the issue of abortion should be left to the states:
“Our society stands at a crossroads. Just as many viewed a particular group of people as less-than-human during the era of slavery, we see this evil ideology today with arguments that children in the womb are unworthy of basic human rights.
“We need a leader who acts boldly to protect all children in the womb, who will refuse to sacrifice the lives of the most vulnerable children in abortion hotbeds like New York, California, and Illinois. We are grateful to President Trump for his administration’s willingness to stand firm for four years and protect human life, and for his appointing Supreme Court Justices who overturned Roe v. Wade.
“Now is the time for Mr. Trump to capitalize on these victories and solidify his reputation as a pro-life stalwart, enacting strong federal protections for these children. More than one million women are still seeking abortion in the United States each year. Much needs to be done at both the federal and state levels to ensure they have the resources they need to choose life. We are ready to lend our support, expertise, and encouragement to Mr. Trump and to any leader who will take up the fight of protecting all human life and making abortion unthinkable in the U.S.”
