October 1, 2024, AUSTIN, Texas — Chelsey Youman, National Legislative Advisor with Human Coalition Action, issued the following statement on Monday after Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled the Georgia LIFE Act, which restricts abortion after detection of a fetal heartbeat, is unconstitutional:
“This tragic ruling in Georgia comes from a judge with a history of siding with abortion activists over basic human rights and the rule of law. This law has been saving lives for almost a year since the state supreme court overwhelmingly upheld it, and we await the day when that same court will once again allow it to take effect. Lives are at stake.
“The LIFE Act was enacted by elected officials who have the solemn authority to protect the lives of all Georgians, including innocent children in the womb. It was a tremendous victory for life and we once again express our gratitude to the state’s leaders who championed it.”
