August 23, 2023, WASHINGTON, DC — Rev. Dean Nelson, Executive Director of Human Coalition Action, issued the following statement on Wednesday after the South Carolina Supreme Court in a 4-1 vote upheld the Fetal Heartbeat and Protection from Abortion Act. The law protects children in the womb once a fetal heartbeat is detected, around six weeks of pregnancy.
“Today is a great day for life in South Carolina. We commend the justices for allowing the government of this state to carry out their basic duty of protecting human life. Every person is entitled to the equal protection of the law, including children in the womb, and we applaud Gov. McMaster and the leaders in the legislature who championed this lifesaving law.”
